Second Day Hair Hacks

I was inspired to write this post after reading this post by Molly-alamode about her tips on how to make it an extra day or two between shampoos without looking like you have dirty hair. I totally agree with all of her points (so you should definitely check out her post) I just wanted to add to the list with a few of my own tips!

I only wash my hair once or twice a week (at most) and while it may seem like its so easy to just not wash your hair, it takes some serious perseverance to make sure you don’t end up looking like a disgusting grease ball by the end of the week. By now, I have pretty much gotten it down to a science so here are some extra tips on keeping your hair lookin’ fresh.

 Wash your brushes

If you think about it, every time you brush your hair, you transfer some of the dirt and oil from your hair to your brush. To make sure you’re not actually brushing dirt and oil into your hair every day, just run your brushes under the tap and wash them with a little bit of baby shampoo to break down anything that may have collected in the past weeks.

Use good shampoo

The easiest way to extend your style for a few extra days is to use a good shampoo. Sometimes the ingredients can build up in your hair making it look and feel dirtier sooner. I’d recommend using a clarifying shampoo every other shampoo to break down any and all products in your hair.

Dry shampoo at night

I think we can all agree that the worst feeling in the world is waking up feeling gross. To make sure you wake up feeling fresh, generously apply dry shampoo at night and let it sink in and work while you’re asleep.

Sleep with your hair out of your face

This is more of a tip for keeping your skin nice, but pull your hair up in a loose bun with a scrunchie or invisibobble (so you don’t crease your hair or cause breakage) so your hair oils don’t cause a breakout on your face. I also recommend trading your pillow case out with a satin pillow case to prevent frizz.

When in doubt, braid it out

Some days there is just no time to wash your hair and it is just too far gone to be saved. You have a couple options when it gets to this point, you can pull your hair into a very sleek (Kim K inspired) pony tail. This will make the oil look like hairspray or gel and seem like it’s deliberate. Or, you can throw in some twists and braids and pull it into a cute messy bun to draw attention away from how dirty your hair is.

I hope these tips helped you figure out how to make your hair last an extra day or two! Feel free to make a post adding your tips. We can all teach each other something, and together we can figure out. (Just make sure to let me know so I can read yours as well!)
